B. Notices of explanations and disclaimers regarding the usage, sources and nature of our material

1. Declaration of the sources and free speech nature of this site

All materials on this site are being served to the public for non-commercial historical interest and community purposes. Some of the materials have been contributed by individuals and organizations while other materials have been produced by the RhodesCollege, Crossroads to Freedom Digital Archive Project (hereafter CFDA). In some cases, and in the spirit of fair use, contributors or CFDA staff have scanned or otherwise reproduced printed materials that have special historical interest to the community. In connection with this archive, we have attempted to secure permission from copyright holders to display any materials that we understand to be copyrighted. If you are a copyright holder that wishes us to remove, to include or alter attribution, or to modify the manner in which any materials in which you own the copyright are displayed, please follow the steps described in subpart 4 below. As this site is solely dedicated to the sharing of the history of the struggle for civil rights in Memphis and the Mid-South, this site is an expression of free speech at the service of the contributors and user communities involved in and interested in the history of civil rights.

2. Attribution to holders of the copyrights to materials on this site

Use of contributed materials is gratefully acknowledged by Rhodes College and CFDA. The copyright in all materials reproduced on this site is held by the owners attributed thereon unless they are original works of Rhodes College or CFDA, in which case they are licensed under the Creative Commons License described in section A above. Use of any content owned by the Rhodes College and CFDA is licensed to third parties expressly pursuant to the Creative Commons license described in section A above. The Rhodes College and CFDA grants no permission to use any material attributed to any other copyrighted holders. Those seeking permission to use these materials as asked to contact the project administrator at crossroads-admin@rhodes.edu, who will facilitate the process of contacting the individual copyright holders.

CDFA respects the intellectual property of others, and we ask our users to do the same. If you are the copyright holder of any text, image, or other multimedia file type on this site and wish to correct or change attribution or presentation or would like us to remove material from the site, you may notify CFDA by providing the following information to our project administrator (designated agent), as required by 17 U.S.C. § 512:

  • An electronic or physical signature of the person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of the copyright or other intellectual property interest;
  • A description of the copyrighted work or other intellectual property that you claim has been infringed;
  • A description of where the material that you claim is infringing is located on the site;
  • Your address, telephone number, and email address;

The material on this site is a work in progress and represents the opinions and recollections of individual contributors and does not constitute any kind of official history.
